Boston Properties is proud to present an exhibition of works by local artists Michael Iacovone and Carly Witmer. Michael Iacovone’s panoramic photographs record the photographer’s mapping of Washington, DC. Iacovone is interested in how areas in the city are structured and connected; he uses mathematical equations to plot these relationships. The equations determine the location of where he will take the next photograph that will be included in a single panorama. Iacovone uses a low-tech Holga camera which gives Iacovone the freedom to record multiple overlapping frames on one large length of film.
Carly Witmer is also inspired by systems. She is fascinated with structures formed seemingly at random in nature. Witmer is particularly interested in the uniformly woven webs that the spiders instinctively spin as if the pattern of the web were programmed into every spider. Her shaped and spectrally colored canvases speak to the importance of light in her structured environments.
