The Loving Story Documentary & Discussion

Last Date:

Location:
1925 Vermont Ave, NW
Building:
African American Civil War Museum
Room:
Auditorium
Details:

The African American Civil War Museum will present The Loving Story by Nancy Buirski as part of the Created Equal program in partnership with the Historical Society of Washington, DC.

Join us for the film followed by a discussion with Ayo Handy-Kendi of PositivEngergyWorks, LLC and Dr. Joy Kinard of the National Park Service in the museum's auditorium.

The conversation will illuminate how the 1967 supreme court miscegenation laws affected the Loving family, and families across the nation. "The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men" was stated by Chief Justice Warren. This ruling was a reflection of the direction of the civil rights movement.
