Part of the Benjamin Drummond Emancipation Day Celebration.
The Washington Post co-hosts a listening session and panel discussion featuring the Historically Black podcast “Tracking Down a Slave’s Bill of Sale” (a co-production of APM Reports and The Washington Post). The podcast brings objects and their stories to life through interviews, archival records, sound and music. “Tracking Down a Slave’s Bill of Sale” follows a Tennessee family as they hunt down their ancestor’s original bill of sale and unearths a surprising history. The listening session will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Veronica Toney, Washington Post Digital Editor, Features and featuring historian Dr. Edna Greene Medford and Tauhid Chappell, Washington Post Social Media Producer.
Following the discussion, laptops will be available for audience members to share their own family stories.
