"It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it." Nelson Mandela

Inspired by former South African President Nelson Mandela’s life and 67 years of public service, MOAA will launch its first-ever Annual Mandela Day of Service in the District of Columbia on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

The event is being held in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of the Clean City, The District of Columbia Youth Advisory Council, Serve DC, Howard University and President Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellows (formerly known as Young African Leaders Initiative).

This program is designed to promote community service and civic engagement in the African communities in the District. During the day of service volunteers will conduct a street clean-up and debris removal at Good Hope Marketplace in Ward 7 located at the intersection of Alabama Avenue & Naylor Road, SE from 9 am to 1 pm.

* MOAA will partner with District agencies and organizations to provide tools and instructions to conduct clean-up. Find more event details on the MOAA website.
**A shuttle will be waiting at Congress Heights Metro from 9 am to transport volunteers to Good Hope Market Place, and will leave at a 15 minute interval. The last shuttle will depart at 9:45 am.
