Details:

2012 marks both the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act of 1862 and the 125th anniversary of the community of Brookland, the Catholic University of America's home and neighborhood.  In celebration of both, John Feeley and Rosie Dempsey will give a presentation of images from Brookland's past from their research for their recently published book, Brookland.

Excerpt from the book's introduction:   " Brookland is a vibrant urban neighborhood with clear physical links to its rural past. It grew from a village into the preeminent Northeast suburb of Washington, DC.  Brookland has a legacy of racial integration, and historic associations with area universities and religious institutions.  Its residents, white and black, have made a mark on the nation's history."
