The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute found that text messaging creates a crash risk 23 times worse than driving while not distracted. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that in 2010 driver distraction was the cause of 18% of all fatal crashes. As part of its campaign to end the harmful and sometimes fatal consequences of texting while driving, the Federal Communications Commission's Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau is hosting a Distracted Driving Technology Showcase on Friday, April 19, from 10am - 1pm in the FCC's Commission Meeting Room.  Consumers, technology organizations, wireless carriers, law enforcement officers, and other involved with educating the public about the dangers of texting while driving are encourage to attend this event. The showcase is free and open to the public.
